Nom de Guerre
For over a year, Nom de Guerre has been a flash point for Manhattan
casual fashion. Singularly elevating the bar of streetwear
both in New York and nationally. Nom de Guerre is often
imitated, but rarely challenged in its position at the head of
casual fashion retail. With style, concept and an ever evolving
stock of inimitable lines and limited-edition items, Nom
de Guerre is still the place to go in New York.
In the Fall of 2003, Nom de Guerre was founded as a creative
collective by Holly Harnsongkram, Wil Whitney, Devon Ojas and
Isa Saalabi. To complement the goals of a high-concept
collaborative effort, the collective chose a space backed by history
and myth. The 750-square foot subterranean space
that came to be occupied by Nom de Guerre, at the corner of
Broadway and Bleecker streets, was once a Black Panther
congregation site.
The ghost of revolution lives on in the space. The store was
inspired by the concept of underground hovels, such as bunkers
and tunnels and the site of archaeological digs. The overall
suggestions of its creators is the invitation of discovery and the
creation of a sense of otherworldliness.
The main level of the store now houses the Nom de Guerre
brand boutique and bookstore…
