MUSIC MEETS FASHION
NOM DE GUERRE FOR ADIDAS

BLACKBOOK: Which subcultures or music scenes are associated with Nom de Guerre?

Holly Harnsongkram: New York subcultures; punks, the downtown art scene of the 80’s, skaters.

BB: Historically, youth cultures have appropriated the Adidas logo. In working with the brand, what image were you hoping to create?

HH: We chose to use the most basic tracksuit-it has the feel of all of Adidas’s wide history at once.

BB: If a soundtrack accompanied your look book, what would be some of the tracks?

HH: “Blue Sky and Yellow Sunflower” by Susumu Yokota, “For Today I Am a Boy” by Antony & the Johnsons. “Save Me Dear” by Ghostface Killah. “Hey Ma” by Cam’ron, “Needles in the Camel’s Eye” by Brian Eno. The list goes on.

BB: Soft Circle (featuring Hisham Bharoocha, pictured left) performed at the preview of NDG’s fall/winter collection. Is their a link between their sound and your clothes?

HH: The Soft Circle sound ranges between exploratory high energy and aggressively deep meditation-we like it!
